I had seen this Kestrel a few times sat on top of telegraph poles. I returned when the light was good and waited and it didn’t take long before the bird turned up. I drove past it slightly, so the light would be behind me and illuminating the bird, carefully got out of the Land Rover. As soon as the bird saw me it took flight but I managed to get a short sequence of shots, this being the second one. This was the first day out with the new 7D, the autofocus is superb.

Straight from the box it wasn’t that impressive but after a day changing the settings and customisations, I have to say I’m very pleased. The main reason for the upgrade was the better autofocus and this is very good, far better than the 40D.
